General

What is special event liability insurance?

Short-term liability coverage for a specific gathering - such as a wedding, party, fundraiser, festival, or race - that helps address certain third-party injury and property damage claims tied to the event.

Is this business insurance?

No. This site is only about special event liability for hosts and organizers. We do not offer business insurance, vendor programs, or year-round commercial packages here.

Who should be the named insured?

Usually the person or organization that signed the venue contract or permit. Match the name the venue expects to see on the COI.

Venues & COIs

Why does my venue require insurance?

Venues want assurance that liability coverage exists if someone is hurt or property is damaged during your event. See When venues require insurance.

What is a COI?

A certificate of insurance - proof of coverage you send to the venue. Details: Additional insured & COI.

Can the venue be listed as additional insured?

Often yes, when required and supported by the policy. Provide the venue’s legal name during the quote/COI step.

Alcohol

Do I need coverage if we have an open bar?

Many venues require host liquor liability when alcohol is served. Read Host liquor liability and disclose alcohol on your application.

What if the caterer already has liquor insurance?

The venue may still require the host to show event liability (and host liquor) on a COI. Ask the venue what they will accept.

Coverage & cost

What does a policy cover?

Typically certain third-party bodily injury and property damage claims arising out of the covered event, subject to terms. Overview: What event insurance covers.

Does it cover wedding cancellation?

Not usually. Cancellation / postponement coverage is a different product from liability insurance.

What affects the price?

Event type, guest count, alcohol, location, duration, limits, and activities. Accurate details matter.

Process

How do I get a quote?

Follow How to get a quote or go directly to eventhelper.com.

How far in advance should I buy?

As soon as your venue sets a COI deadline - often weeks before the event. City permits may need even more lead time.

Can I insure a festival or 5K?

Often yes, subject to eligibility. See festival & concert insurance and sports & race event insurance.

City pages

Do you have local pages?

Yes - start with cities, including examples for Las Vegas and Phoenix. Those pages show how geo microsites can reuse the same hubs and guides.
