Private Party & Celebration Insurance
Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, reunions, holiday parties, and milestone celebrations are some of the most common reasons hosts buy special event insurance. If you are renting a hall, restaurant private room, Airbnb-style event space, or backyard tented venue that asks for a certificate of insurance, a short-term event liability policy is usually the straightforward answer.
Celebrations this coverage is built for
- Birthday and quinceañera parties
- Anniversary dinners and vow renewals
- Graduation and retirement parties
- Family reunions and holiday gatherings
- Engagement parties and bridal showers
- Private dinners and milestone celebrations
For wedding ceremonies and receptions, see wedding insurance.
Do you need insurance for a private party?
You might, if:
- The venue contract requires liability insurance
- You are serving alcohol and the venue asks for host liquor liability
- Guests will be on someone else’s property
- You want a safety net for slip-and-fall or property-damage claims
Homeowners or renters insurance sometimes provides limited host coverage, but venues frequently refuse to rely on it and instead require a dedicated event policy with their name on the COI. Read more: When venues require insurance.
Typical party insurance questions
How many guests? Attendance affects rating and eligibility.
Is there alcohol? Hosted bar vs. BYOB can matter; many venues still want host liquor liability whenever alcohol is present. See Host liquor liability.
Indoor or outdoor? Tents, pools, and dance floors should be described accurately.
Who is the insured? Use the name on the rental contract.
Getting a COI for your venue
Most private-party hosts need the certificate quickly. With The Event Helper, you can often quote online, purchase, and download a COI that lists the venue as additional insured when required.
