Event Cancellation Insurance Explained

Cancellation / postponement coverage (when available) is about financial loss if an event cannot proceed as planned. Special event liability is about third-party injury and property damage claims. Hosts sometimes need to understand both - they are not interchangeable.

Liability vs cancellation

Topic Special event liability Cancellation / postponement
Core job Injury / property claims Lost deposits / certain costs if event cannot proceed
Venue COI Often yes Usually not the COI the venue is asking for
Typical trigger talk Guest slips, damage claims Weather, illness, vendor failure - subject to terms

Planning tip

If your venue requires a COI, buy the liability path that satisfies the contract first. Explore cancellation products separately if your budget risk is deposits and nonrefundable vendors.
